Where Can I Buy a Big Green Egg Barbecue
Introduction: Halloween-Inspired Green Eggs With Spiderwebs (No Food Colouring)
This original recipe is a fusion halloween themed dish combining the devilled eggs and tea eggs to produced a spiderwebbed egg with a creamy green guacamole egg filling.
Step 1: Ingredients
Firstly, the star of the dish:
Eggs
Liquid
English Breakfast Tea
Soy Sauce
[Optional] Spicy Peppers
Filling
- Avocado
- Mayonnaise
- Paprika
- Salt
- Pepper
Kitchen Supplies
- Chopping Board and Knife
- Pot
- Spoon
- [Optional] Food processor
- Ziplock bag or Piping bag
Step 2: Boil the Eggs
We want to make hardboiled eggs for this recipe. The technique I use to make perfect hardboiled eggs each time is to use a timer.
- Fill the pot with water and bring the heat up to maximum, then carefully place the eggs in so as not to crack them.
- Once the water is fully boiling (vigorously bubbling), bring the heat down to medium and set the timer for 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes, you now have perfect hardboiled eggs. Drain the water to prevent it from overcooking.
Step 3: Cool the Eggs
Before we steep the eggs, we need to let it cool first under a stream of cold water.
Step 4: Prepare the Tea Bath
Boil some water and fill up any large container with it to make our tea.
I used the following ratios:
- 2 cups of water
- 3 bags of English Breakfast Tea
- 2 teaspoon of soy sauce
Step 5: 'Crack' the Eggs
There's multiple ways of going about this, but here are my 2 preferred methods.
You can first crack the egg on an edge and then roll them on a flat surface until you get a web-y crack pattern.
Or, just keep hitting the egg with the back of the spoon on all sides (which is what I did here)
Step 6: Steep the Eggs
You should steep the eggs in the tea bath for at least 8 hours, around 12 hours is best.
If you want a lightly coloured egg, then you can do it for less time. On the contrary, if you want it more contrasted and darker, steep it longer.
Step 7: Peel the Eggs
Once the eggs are done steeping, carefully peel the eggs and cut it lengthwise.
Scoop out the egg yolks, we'll need it for the filling.
Step 8: Making the Filling
We use Avocados to make the filling green and extremely creamy. Here's the ratios I used:
- 2 Avocados
- 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
- 4 Egg Yolks
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
I found it easiest to scoop out the avocados with a spoon, once sliced in half lengthwise.
Then I put all the ingredients in a food processor to mix the filling ingredients. You don't have to use a food processor -- you can just mash the avocado first and then mix it in if you don't have one.
Step 9: Pipe the Filling and Enjoy!
Put the filling to a piping bag, if you don't have one just use a ziplock bag like I did and snip out a small piece from the corner.
Then start filling the core of the egg where the yolk used to be with your filling. Voila, you're done!
Step 10: Enjoy!
Enjoy your bite-size halloween-themed snacks!
